Caroline, I read this portion of your Novel and recent blog entries, I am no literary critic, but I was captured by what was on the page. Your attention to detail really takes me there and paints the scene . I personally think you need to stop obsessing over what to edit or being "Too wordy" and send out small samples of your manuscript UNEDITED to literary agencies...put yourself out there and let the professionals decide what to cut back on. I know you seek input from your writing peers, but too much input can be harmful and leave you doubting yourself- make you stagnate. Many great artist were scoffed at by their peers but refused to listen, that's why they became Great Artist. Believe in yourself and your novel and take a chance...I believe in you.

This is a great list. I notice some crossover between our lists - in all the right places (Smiths, Wilco -- and "Green" was a runner up for me too). I'd totally forgotten about Stone Roses; they're still on rotation at my house. One thing I noticed on my list is that my musical tastes are pretty narrow. I feel slightly guilty about that sometimes. Trying to re-introduce myself to classic Stones, etc. Don't even get me started on jazz. Anyway, the great thing about this exercise is that is forces people to think in terms of albums. Since I got my iPod, I hardly ever listen to a full album anymore. One forgets just how hard it is to sustain genius over a full 40 or 50 or 60 minutes. These days, in the iPod ear, it's all about individual songs. Which kind of hearkens back to the early days of rock n roll, actually. Anyway, thanks for responding and posting this list. I have some new stuff to check out now...
